One of the main misunderstandings about life purpose lies around the notion of it being something that you have to DO. Like it is something that resembles a job. Nope! Life purpose revolves around energy – and how you express that energy. There are many, many ways to live your life purpose!

As an example, if your life purpose generally revolves around creativity, you don’t need to be an artist. You can be a CEO or a stand-up comedian and still be creative! So, when it comes to your child’s life purpose, it is important to encourage the energy behind the life purpose, not an idea of what your child *should* do “when they grow up”.

If you child’s life purpose is, for example, to be a powerful creator in the spotlight, there are 3 energies that need to be encouraged together. The first is power. Most children are naturally powerful and have powerful voices to express this. As they get older they have that scaled way back so that they can fit into the structure of school and this can become an issue for those children who are shy or lack confidence. These children should be encouraged to step into their power – to express their thoughts and opinions without danger of recrimination, and to try new activities that stretch their comfort zones. Stepping into power is about confidence and self-esteem, so anything that encourages these qualities works for this energy.

The second energy to be encouraged is that of creativity itself. Again, most children gravitate naturally to creative activities – from drawing and painting, to dance, to creating their own games. Just keep encouraging the creativity itself, in a form it shows up in. Repetition in the form of practice can be an important factor in this life purpose energy as well, so encourage a “practice makes perfect” attitude (while being fun and supportive!). In this era of instant gratification, it is important to develop skills and not just quit if they aren’t excelling at an activity the first go ‘round.

The third energy is that of the spotlight. Expressing life purpose in the spotlight means that however your child chooses to express his/her life purpose, it will involve bringing it to the public. Other people “complete” this life purpose. This type of life purpose often manifests itself as a career (including business), but it doesn’t have to. It can be a hobby that he becomes renowned for – an artist or singer for example, or perhaps she is an athlete that people come to watch. To develop this energy, encourage your child to be comfortable in public situations and encourage as many public situations as are feasible. Repetition enhances confidence and comfort. Younger children have less of an issue with this than older ones. Think about school plays – the kindergarteners love the spotlight and have a lot of fun, and by the time kids get to grade 8 many are too self-conscious to enjoy the spotlight. It is much easier to encourage your child from a young age and keep it going than when they are older, but children are so flexible and willing. If your child is older and a bit of a wallflower, then you can still encourage your child to embrace the spotlight – just be so gentle, supportive and take baby-steps. If this kind of thing is rushed it will only backfire.

I will be writing more on different life purposes and how you can support your child in living them. I would LOVE to hear what you think, so please leave your comments below.

To you and your family’s joy!

Blessings,

Keena

PS: Too many people live with little or no connection to their life purpose, so give your child the ultimate head start!

Imagine you receive this tiny, tender “mystery” plant. You love gardening, and you know this plant is unique and special. Even though you know nothing about this particular plant, you are quite plant-savvy, so you committed to helping it grow to its fullest potential. You make SURE that your wee plant has good soil, enough water, fertilizer, and you plant it in the best spot in the garden – a nice, hot, sunny spot, like you might pick for your prize tomatoes.

Now you would think that your little mystery plant has everything it needs. But what if it grows best in a moist, shady environment? What will happen?

It will wither in the hot sun.

Your tender plant needs the right environment for it to thrive. (You wouldn’t try to grow a Hawaiian hibiscus in the arctic!).

It is the same with kids. No mystery – knowing your child’s life purpose will take the guess work out of making sure she has the right “habitat” to grow to her fullest potential!

Give your child the ultimate head start – help him express his life purpose. The earlier a start he gets the better chance he will have of reaching his potential.

To you and your family’s joy and abundance!

Blessings,

What is a child’s life purpose? Well, our children have life purposes just like we do. It’s not something that just appears when we reach adulthood – though it tends to be something we look for in adulthood. Life purpose or soul purpose is something that we express in our lives in order to grow and expand, and it is for our entire lives. This means that our children also have a life purpose and life lesson just like we do.

There are many ways for an adult to find out his or her life purpose, and this often requires journalling extensive answers to many questions. But how can we know our child’s life purpose and life lesson? Let’s start with our children’s interests.

As a mom with two great kids, it has always been really important to me in supporting their interests, not mine. For instance, I wouldn’t drag my daughter to piano lessons if her passion is sculpting or baseball (this is not to say that it couldn’t be all of these). Children’s interests are often related to their life purpose, since they are much more in tune with themselves, their higher selves and Source than we are. Paying attention to recurring interests is often a strong clue to their life purpose.

While supporting our children’s interests is great in and of itself, it is not enough if we are to be enlightened enough parents to support our children in expressing their life purpose, and working through their life lessons. We simply can’t get enough information from their interests to have a really solid idea, especially if they have a complex life purpose and, of course, we would know next to nothing about life lessons. For instance, many people have life lessons that revolve around money and abundance issues. There’s is no way that you can get that information from watching your children, especially if they are only 3 months old! But if you knew that this was going to be an upcoming issue in their lives, then you could take action now so that they were confident in handling money and creating a flow of money in their lives.

I would love to read what you have to say about life purpose, your children’s life purpose, and what you think of this article! Please leave your comments below.

To your, and your family’s, joy and success!

Blessings,
